celebrating October . . . at Home

This was the first year that I didn't decorate for Halloween in more than 15 years. Gasp!

I've been busier than normal with our 5 and 6-year-old in school.

I thought I would've had more time on my hands having two in school every day, but that hasn't been the case. Their homework, Friday spelling tests, Run Club, and (before & after) school activities have kept me quite busy.

So this year I decided to forego decorating for Halloween, and just focus on Fall decor and incorporating fun Halloween activities and baking into our weekly routines instead.

We've been so busy that the kids haven't even noticed that I didn't decorate for Halloween. I guess that's a good sign . . . because that means that I did a good job bringing Halloween fun to our days through little things.

Here's a peak (through photos) of how we celebrated the month of October at home . . .

fun & festive paper straws
big pots of home-made chili
just like my grandma used to make on Hallow's Eve
visits to the pumpkin patch
candy corns
It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,
a family tradition

  1. What a cute wild cat! How did you make the crows? Those are fabulous.

  2. Looks like you've been very busy! Love those pumpkins on a stick. Fun times at your house! :)

  3. I can imagine how busy you've been with two little ones. Your daughter is just the cutest. Her eyes are beautiful. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of your fun with them.

  4. So this is your first year to not decorate for Halloween for the last 15 years? I've been living in this country for 10 years now and I have never decorated for Halloween. But then I had never decorated for it my entire life. I admire people who decorate their houses for Halloween and I am very thankful they do because I enjoy looking at them.

  5. What a fun post! I love everything about it...

  6. My what a busy girl you've been...I didn't decorate for Halloween either this year... kids gone and I'd rather look at fall. Your daughter is adorable...and I'm wishing I had a few of your treats right now instead of leftover crappy Halloween candy... it's windy, cold and snowing here in IL, so no trick or treaters, now we have a whole bunch of candy left over :-{

  7. I wouldn't have noticed that you didn't decorate either. You did a ton of fun Halloween and fall themed things. That's way better than any old decorations any day of the week!

  8. It doesn't matter how much time we think we will always seems to run away. You have had a great month tho, some very inspiring treats!

Thanks for linking up to Marvelous Monday on Smart Party Planning.
