a candy themed party for our girls' birthday!

We celebrated our daughters' birthdays this year at Powell's Sweet Shoppe . . . and sweet it was!

Have you ever been to Powell's? There's really nothing like it. Imagine a store filled from floor to ceiling with every and any kind of candy you could possibly imagine. Even candies dating back in time. There's also gelato, old-fashioned sodas, and beautiful chocolates.

Honestly, I could spend an entire post writing about how incredible this Shoppe is, but I'd much rather share details about our girls' special day.

We celebrated their birthdays together this year. Charley (our oldest daughter) wanted to have a party at Powell's. Who wouldn't? It's sweet-lover's dream come true.

We thought we would celebrate Lauren's (our youngest daughter) birthday there as well, since she loves Powell's too! Happily, it worked out well . . . and both girls felt equally special even though they had to share the day.

The girls chose pink, gold/yellow, and peach for the birthday colors. Charley wanted a candy theme cake . . . and Lauren, of course, wanted a Dora cake (as in, Dora the Explorer). She's been Dora's biggest fan since she was 2!

I made pink, gold, and cream tissue paper pom poms and polka dot paper confetti for decorations . . . . and kept the backdrop neutral with beige linens; and served our lunch from white stoneware.  It was the perfect neutral backdrop, since both girls had completely different birthday cakes. That, and our party setting was an outrageous candy shoppe, so I didn't need to do much decorating for this party.

One of my favorite things to do is use ribbons and tulle to decorate bottles of soda (or water), cake stands, and napkin & silverware totes.  Because this was a candy-themed party, I glued candies to the ribbons too.

Our menu was simple.

I thought it would be fun to serve pink & orange foods . . . and chose to go healthy and lite since we were celebrating in a candy shoppe. I was happily surprised that amidst the sweets-fest, our young guests ate a healthy lunch.

fresh strawberries
clementines
gold fish crackers
strawberry & cherry yogurt
turkey sandwiches
vegetable sandwiches
orange soda

Here's a peak into the party room where we celebrated the girls' birthday.

They were entertained for 2 hours with . . .

a life-size Candy Land game
diy candy lei
scavenger hunt in the shoppe
old-fashioned soda & gelato
 . . . and cupcake decorating

Our girls and their friends had so much fun!

I can't wait to share a few birthday photos and the cakes that I made for the girls in my next post.

LET'S STAY in touch!
