a fun & festive Halloween with my kids

Our kids make this time of year so much fun!

I find their excitement contagious. Even the most simple of Halloween crafts, desserts, and decorations stir their happiness.

Personally, I adore Thanksgiving, but with THREE little ones . . . I can't escape Halloween.   So a few spooky touches here and there help make this time of year extra fun for them.

~  foil pumpkins . . . one for each of our kids  ~

I collect linen dishtowels, and have one for every season and holiday under the sun . . . so our kids have fun watching them change. This one is one of their favorites this time of year.

I love the crown on the crow! Did you notice it?

We love Trader Joe's Halloween JOE JOE'S Cookies! They're similar to Oreo's in shape, but these cookies are simply adorable with their double-sided pumpkin faces and bright orange vanilla bean cream filling.

A rich, smooth ganache frosting . . . and plenty of candy corns and sprinkles can make this already adorable cookie even more fun.

We're a hot cocoa family, especially during the cooler Fall and Winter months.

Halloween marshmallows and paper straws make this humble drinking experience fun & festive, especially when we enjoy them by the fire.

You can't have hot cocoa without marshmallows!

Instead of adding traditional mini marshmallows, we add Halloween PEEPS! They look quite fun and festive floating on top!

My husband and I have fond childhood memories of anxiously waiting for our local television station to air children's Halloween cartoons just before the arrival of this fun and festive holiday.  They seemed to add to the excitement! Do you remember them too?

One of our all time favorites was (and still is) It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

We continue the tradition every year, and cozy up on our large sofa with hot cocoa and lots of blankets, and watch this classic together!

And pumpkins . . . pumpkins, everywhere!

Who doesn't love pumpkins this time of year, especially around Halloween . . . when we get to turn them into Jack-o-Lanterns.

Thanks for coming by, and taking a peak at a few of our fun & festive Halloween traditions.

Happy Halloween, friends!

It's Halloween 'at home'

October brings a glimpse of Fall . . . and Hallow's Eve to our home.

I'm a traditionalist . . . Orange & black remind me of the fun festivities related to Halloween, so these colors find their way into my decor around this time of year.

I think it's fun to glam up Halloween decor with black feathers and velvet, a little glitter, pewter, and blue pumpkins.

I bought these beautiful pewter pieces while on our recent trip to Colorado. Notice the delicate details on the rims and handles. I'm in love!

I added these glitter skulls to our dining room table for a Halloween inspired dinner we recently hosted for a few friends.

I discovered gold nugget squash this year, and it's found its way into almost every room in our home.

A simple BOO garland made of washed linen and black felt is another one of my favorites.

I found this hand-painted Folk Art pumpkin several years ago . . . and he finds a special place in my Halloween decor every year. Don't you love his feather collar!?!

I think white pumpkins are magical. I paired them this year with these hand-painted folk art faux candy corns.

I have several Fall wreaths, but this one makes my heart pitter-patter with its fiery orange and red hues.

Instead of hanging it on my front door this year, I hung it on my black chalkboard.

It's quite stunning when the afternoon sun shines on it against the black backdrop.

I'm so happy you came by for a glimpse at a few of my favorite Halloween vignettes.

Please come back again later this week to see the simple & sweet Halloween touches that I add just for my kids.

It's Halloween 'at Home'

My recent trip to Colorado kick started the Fall season for me. After enjoying and admiring so much Fall inspiration and beauty . . . I jumped right into decorating for Halloween and Fall after arriving home (forget unpacking and laundry!).

Half of my home is filled with the warmth of Fall . . . pumpkins, bushels of wheat, bundles of Indian corn, twinkle lights, and barren vines winding up staircases; and the other half is decorated for Halloween. As I grow older and appreciate the glories of Fall even more, I find it harder to share my home with Halloween, BUT my little ones LOVE it . . . and so it will remain a big part of my October decorating for many more years (smile).

I thought it would be fun to share a FEW Halloween decor photos from my home . . .

~ Halloween isn't Halloween without candy corns ~
